Imagine knowing your daughter needs major corrective surgery to correct a rare condition Laryngeal Web but knowing you cannot afford it.

This is the sad reality for Mellisa Henry Taylor and Ronald Taylor whose 5-year-old daughter Blessings Taylor who is a student at the Gordon Walters Primary School who are seeking to raise $80,0000 BDS to facilitate their daughter’s treatment.
With tears in her eyes, Mellisa, spoke of her daughter’s medical journey and pleaded with Barbadians at home and abroad to assist her with meeting their financial goal so that their daughter can have a normal life.
“My daughter Blessings is five-years-old and thus far it has been challenging and a scary journey trying to figure out what is wrong with her. Originally, she was diagnosed with a severe narrowing of her airway due to enlarged adenoids. My husband and I became more concerned when we were told that our daughter would have had to undergo major surgery at two-years-old as the doctors needed to remove her tonsils and adenoids to open her airway. The surgery was scheduled and about to begin but after the anaesthesiologist put her to sleep, they realized that her airway was even smaller than they expected. We were then given the shocking news that our daughter’s vocal cords are webbed together,” she said.
Mellisa said her five-year-old daughter Blessings day to day life has been significantly impacted as the condition prevents her to be able to breathe properly and enjoy childhood activities for long periods of time.
“We have been back and forth with the hospital, and we have now realized that the treatment our little angel needs is not available in Barbados. Blessings will have to travel to Texas to receive the much-needed surgery. This will be a major procedure as they have to open her airway by removing the Web and placing a keel to seperate her vocal cords. Thus, I am asking all of Barbados to assist with donating funds to help us get our daughter back to a state of normalcy,” she said whilst wiping tears.
Mellisa is still seeking to have a bank account established for her daughter Blessings Taylor but she encourages persons to contact her at +1246 253-7788 or +1246 261-9892 or email melissa.abbytaylor@gmail.com or tashaniclarke49@gmail.com to make their donations.
